Qualifications

  • A valid KS Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain one with appropriate endorsement(s) preferred, but not required.  
  • A demonstrated philosophy that all students can and will learn.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best instructional practices.
  • Positive interpersonal skills.
  • Verification of successful director performance and/or other professional experiences.
  • Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education.
  • This individual will exhibit skills pertinent to foster positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • The will to continuously pursue efforts to produce a quality co-educational program.

 

Other Information

Reports to: Building Principal

Work Schedule: Estimated 350 – 400 hours between August 15th and November 8th. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Developing student performers' cognitive capacity and respect for learning.
  • Positively fostering students’ self-esteem.
  • Working with and understanding a diverse student population.
  • Integration of leadership, technology, and communication into fall musical production.
  • Foster a collaborative effort with assist directors who will provide vocal, instrumental, dance and stage-set instruction.
  • Planning for and guiding the learning process to help students perform a high-quality musical production.
  • Maintaining a rehearsal atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Selecting and using effective instructional methods and learning materials.
  • Establishing a cooperative relationship with all performers and supporting students.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with parents/ guardians/ staff.
  • Promoting collaboration with teachers throughout the school’s program and support the district’s vision, aims and goals.
  • Develop and maintain a system for auditorium use by the community and district staff. 

Job Description, Musical Director

  • Near the beginning of the school year, the successful candidate will work with assistants to determine the production which will align with the vocal and instrumental talents of the AHS students. 
  • The director will work with the administration to order scripts and other items needed for staging, costumes, and other basics needed to produce a quality stage performance.
  • The director will need to schedule rehearsals to begin early enough to present the production.  Typically beginning 10 to 12 weeks prior to the production, which is scheduled for the first weekend in November on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • The AHS administrative team will work with the successful candidate to establish a system for reserving the auditorium facilities for use by community programs.
  • Auditorium management includes communication with the building principal to ensure the technology and equipment in the auditorium in in working condition.
  • Auditorium management includes facilitating the use of auditorium facilities calendar to protect instructional time for district classes taking place in the theater.    
  • The AHS administrative team will work with the successful candidate to build a team to run the auditorium systems for lighting, sound, and projection.  Supplemental pay of $20 per hour will be provided to members of this team, including the manager, when running the auditorium systems outside the normal school day.
