Abilene (Kansas) Schools USD #435 is looking for an administrator to serve as the Principal for the Abilene Virtual School and Assistant Principal for Abilene Middle School. This administrator will be a valued member of the district's administrative leadership team, working closely with the superintendent, and middle school principal. He/she will help maintain a positive climate for students and staff in AMS and Abilene Virtual School. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: assisting the middle school principal with teacher and support staff evaluation processes, communicating with families, event supervision as needed, helping with the oversight for non-athletic student activities, discipline oversight as needed, assisting with staff support at the middle school and providing primary oversight of a small number of staff members for the virtual school.
This person should also plan to submit monthly reports to the Board of Education. The ability to communicate clearly in speech and writing is a must. Building-level licensure is required.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership
- Five Years or More Teaching Experience.
- Knowledge of best practices in teaching.
- Ability to oversee technology-based educational platforms.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to make administrative decisions for students and staff.
- Work to build personal, and positive connections with all students and staff.
- Provide direction for middle school program sponsors through the timely completion of the annual evaluation process.
- Provide instructional direction for virtual school aides and/or teachers while ensuring fidelity to processes established by the district.
- Participate in and possibly facilitate discussions pertaining to his/her building and activity programs.
- Address student disipline issues through the lens of district and legal protocols.
- Monitor the implementation of instructional and program resources.
- Assist with the development of parameters and expectations for pursuing district vision.
- Assist the Middle School Principal in the organization of all staff communication.
- Assist in the recruitment, selection and assignment of program sponsors.
- Assume a leadership role for the building's public relations events and communication efforts as observed through social media, event messages, meetings with staff and patrons, building visitations, etc.
- Support programs as requested by the principal or district-level administration (including, but not limited to: Accreditation, classroom instruction, evaluation processes, fulfillment of district commitment to excellence).
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolonged sitting, standing, and use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue.
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
- Requires a high level of body control to complete and maintain Mandt certification.
General Responsibilities:
- Facilitate professional learning and help monitor licensure considerations.
- Facilitate student discipline measures as needed.
- Assist with teacher induction process.
- Assume a leadership role with regard maintaining Boys Town Social Skills certifications.
- Facilitate and/or participate in the hiring process for teachers, support staff, and program sponsors.
- Conduct teacher and support staff evaluations.
- Understand compliance considerations.
- Support data-based decision making with teachers and other instructional leaders.
- Provide direction for staff, teachers, students, and families.
- Be a positive representative of the school district throughout the community.
